6:00 AM | *Some instability today...a couple of very warm days coming on Thursday and Friday*

Paul Dorian

An upper-level low will swing across the northern Mid-Atlantic region today and it will produce some instability in the atmosphere and perhaps a few scattered showers and thunderstorms.  Later in the week, an upper-level ridge will edge eastward and temperatures should climb to 90 degrees or so by Friday afternoon.  A cold front will slide through the region on Friday night – perhaps sparking a few PM showers and thunderstorms – and temperatures will drop a bit this weekend with highs likely in the middle 80’s on both days.

Paul Dorian

A weak disturbance can set off some shower and thunderstorm activity later today as temperatures climb into the low-to-mid 80’s for afternoon highs. High pressure will be in general control of the weather on Tuesday providing us with plenty of sunshine and comfortably warm conditions. An upper-level low then swings towards the Great Lakes and it’ll keep the weather pattern quite unsettled around here for the mid and late week time periods. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to return to the area later Wednesday and Wednesday night and some of that rain can be heavy at times.

6:30 AM | *A great finish to the shortened work week and for the start to the weekend...PM shower threat on Sunday*

Paul Dorian

High pressure pushed into the Mid-Atlantic region on Thursday, and it’ll stay in control of the weather through Saturday as it edges slowly eastward towards the east coast. The air mass associated with this system is very comfortable for the end of May featuring pleasant temperatures and low humidity values. The pattern becomes more unsettled for the second half of the weekend as an upper-level trough will slide in this direction from the west. As a result, clouds should be on the increase on Sunday and there is a chance for some shower activity from Sunday afternoon into Sunday night.

1:00 PM (Thursday) | *Severe weather/tornado threat next few days to be focused on the Plains*

Paul Dorian

A spurt of tornadoes since late April has put levels well above normal as we reach the end of May and the overall active weather pattern of recent weeks looks like it’ll continue into the month of June. One of the key ingredients to this on-going active weather pattern has been the steady influx of colder-than-normal air masses from Canada into the US at the same time increasingly warm and humid air has been flowing northward from the Gulf of Mexico. The main area of concern for severe weather and tornadoes over the next few days will be across the Plains states all the way from Texas (today/tonight/tomorrow) to the Dakotas/Minnesota (on Sunday).

6:30 AM | **Somewhat unsettled today through Sunday, but there should be plenty of rain-free time...looking wet and stormy for Memorial Day**

Paul Dorian

A cold front grudgingly slid through the region yesterday and will stall just to our south by the early part of the weekend. Additional disturbances will ride along this stalled-out frontal boundary zone through the weekend bringing us the chance of showers and thunderstorms from time-to-time; however, there should be plenty of rain-free time as well so not at all a total washout. An unsettled weather pattern early next week with a deepening upper-level trough of low pressure will bring us a good chance of showers and thunderstorms on Monday, Memorial Day…some of the rain can be heavy, some of the storms can be strong-to-severe.
