7:00 AM | **Turns colder with the chance of snow showers**

It turns colder today in the metro region and there can be some snow shower activity with a minor accumulation on the table. Temperatures drop into the 20’s tonight and only climb to about 40 degrees on Friday with more snow showers possible. The weekend begins rather chilly, but it turns much milder again early next week and temperatures may reach well into the 60’s by Tuesday afternoon.

A low pressure system and its associated cold front will cross the Mid-Atlantic region later tonight possibly generating a couple of evening rain showers and then high pressure returns on Friday. Low pressure will ride along that frontal boundary zone by the early part of the weekend and there can be some accumulating snow around here from later Friday evening into early Saturday morning and then the rest of the weekend to follow will be rather cold and breezy. Preliminary snowfall estimates are 1-3 inches by Saturday morning in the NYC metro region.

Running for his third presidential term, Franklin Roosevelt made a 1940 campaign promise to allow for the training of African American military pilots. In cooperation with the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama which was founded by Booker T. Washington in 1881, the Army created a program in 1941 to induct and train what would eventually amount to more than 14,000 airmen, of whom about 1,000 would become pilots; the others became navigators, bombardiers, radio operators, administrators, support personnel - and some became weathermen.

After yesterday’s combination of rain and snow, high pressure returns to the region for today and it’ll be cold and breezy with highs confined to the mid-to-upper 30’s. A clipper low pressure system and its associated cold front will cross the Mid-Atlantic region tomorrow night possibly generating a rain or snow shower here and then high pressure and slightly colder air returns for the end of the work week. Low pressure will ride along that frontal boundary by the early part of the weekend and there can be some accumulating snow here from Friday night into Saturday morning and the rest of the weekend to follow will be quite cold and breezy.

It stays rather mild for the next couple of days and there should be some sunshine. It does turn colder on Thursday night and Friday and there can be some rain and/or snow shower activity. The weekend begins rather chilly, but it turns milder again early next week and temperatures may reach well into the 50’s by Monday afternoon.
