A warm and unsettled week is coming to the Tennessee Valley with the end of April and beginning of May likely to features highs in the 80’s and multiple chances of showers and thunderstorms. The main players during the next few days will be an upper-level trough situated across the nation’s mid-section and a ridge aloft stationed over the western Atlantic. The chance of showers and thunderstorms from late today into later Tuesday will include the threat of strong storms containing heavy rainfall.

7:00 AM | **Warmest day of the season so far with highs way up in the 80's**

After a warm frontal passage on Sunday, the warmest air of the season so far will push into the area and afternoon temperatures today should reach the middle 80’s. A backdoor cool front approaches the area this evening and hangs around on Tuesday and this can result in scattered showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will not be as high on Tuesday on the other side of the frontal system with highs likely around 70 degrees following the 80’s of later today. It stays unsettled at mid-week with additional showers and thunderstorms possible and afternoon high temperatures again likely close to the 70 degree mark.

After a warm frontal passage on Sunday, the warmest air of the season so far will push into the area and afternoon temperatures today should reach the upper 80’s...perhaps even touch 90 degrees in some spots. A cold front approaches the area on Tuesday and its approach will raise the chances of late day and early evening showers and thunderstorms as temperatures climb to the middle 80’s. It stays somewhat unsettled at mid-week with additional showers and thunderstorms possible and highs backing down a bit to the lower 80’s for Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.

After a warm frontal passage on Sunday, the warmest air of the season so far will push into the area and afternoon temperatures today should reach the middle 80’s. A backdoor cool front approaches the area tonight and hangs around on Tuesday and there can be an isolated shower or two from tonight into mid-day on Tuesday. Showers and thunderstorms are more likely later tomorrow and tomorrow night as an upper-level trough approaches from our west and the threat of rain can linger into mid-week.

Many who experienced the recent total solar eclipse in the US are wondering where and when will there be other opportunities in coming years and there are others who were “clouded out” on April 8th wondering the same thing. The next total solar eclipse on US soil won’t come for twenty years and the next one in North America will take place in 2033 across portions of Alaska. There are, however, several opportunities to view total solar eclipses between now and 2034, but most will require significant planning and extensive travel.

High pressure has pushed to the east of here during the past 24 hours or so and this shift in location has opened the door for much warmer air to press eastward from the nation’s mid-section. As a result, temperatures will climb into the 80’s across northern Alabama not only today and tomorrow, but through much of the first half of next week as well.

A somewhat unsettled weather pattern around here began late Thursday and will continue today as we end the work week with the chance of showers and thunderstorms. It remains unsettled into the weekend and turns noticeably cooler with temperatures confined to the 50’s on both days. A warmup begins early next week which should take us back into the 70’s for afternoon highs on Tuesday and Wednesday.

However, by Sunday, a big-time warmup will begin in much of the eastern US and temperatures here will soar into the middle 70’s as high pressure pushes off the east coast. It turns even warmer on Monday with temperatures climbing into the low-to-mid 80’s across the NYC metro region. A cold frontal system approaches the area late Tuesday, and it could generate showers and thunderstorms in the area.
