5:30 AM | *Dry spell should be broken later today/tonight with the arrival of a cold front...another cold front can bring more showers/storms here late Saturday*

Paul Dorian

The rain-free weather that we’ve experienced during the past several days should come to an end later today with the arrival of a cold frontal system. Though the front is weakening as it heads towards the east coast, it should still be able to produce some shower and thunderstorm activity around here from late today into early Friday breaking our current dry spell. In fact, a few strong storms are possible which can contain brief downpours. A second cold front will arrive late Saturday and it too can produce some shower and thunderstorm activity in the DC-to-Philly-to-NYC corridor. High pressure will return to the area for the Sunday and Monday time frame and another cool and dry air mass will spread here from the Great Lakes.

**Dry spell ends on Thursday night with cold front #1 and numerous showers and thunderstorms...cold front #2 brings another round of showers and thunderstorms late Saturday/Saturday night**

Paul Dorian

The month of August was not only quite a bit cooler-than-normal in the Mid-Atlantic region (coolest in 25 years in DC, 3rd coolest in 25 years for NYC), but it was also very dry as well in many areas. In fact, the DC-to-Philly-to-NYC corridor saw virtually no rainfall during the last ten days of August and the month of September has started off rain-free as well. There is plenty of hope, however, that in the near-term there will be two chances for some welcome rainfall associated with two separate cold frontal systems. The first chance of showers and thunderstorms will come late Thursday and Thursday night with the initial cold front and then a second round of showers and thunderstorms is likely for late Saturday/Saturday night associated with cold front #2.

6:00 AM | *Two shots at showers in the near-term associated with back-to-back cold fronts...late Thursday and late Saturday*

Paul Dorian

The comfortable and dry weather that we’ve been experiencing in recent days will continue here at mid-week with large high pressure remaining in control of the northeastern part of the nation. A cold front will push through the region from late Thursday night into early Friday and then a secondary cold front arrives late Saturday. These two fronts will present our best chance in awhile for some rainfall in the Mid-Atlantic region from late tomorrow into Friday and then again late Saturday. High pressure takes control of the weather for the second half of the weekend as another much cooler-than-normal air mass spreads eastward from the Great Lakes/Upper Midwest into the northeastern states.

6:00 AM | *Two cold fronts will present our best chance in quite awhile for some rainfall in the Mid-Atlantic region...late in the week and early this weekend*

Paul Dorian

The comfortable and dry weather pattern that we’ve been experiencing in recent days will continue into the mid-week with large high pressure remaining in control of the northeastern part of the nation. A cold front will push through the region from late Thursday night into early Friday and then a secondary cold front arrives late Saturday. These two fronts will present our best chance in awhile for some rain in the Mid-Atlantic late in the week and early this weekend. High pressure takes control of the weather for the second half of the weekend as another cooler-than-normal air mass reaches the northeastern part of the country.

One final note, the month of August ended up with an average temperature of 2.3 degrees below-normal in Central Park…the 3rd coolest August in the past 25 years.
