A strong storm will push towards the Great Lakes today and it’ll continue to result in mild, unsettled conditions across the Tennessee Valley. Showers are likely to continue through much of the day and there can be an embedded thunderstorm or two containing heavier downpours. The on-going active pattern will continue well into next week with multiple shots at additional rounds of showers. Temperatures will drop from the 60’s today to the 50’s on Saturday and will stay on the chilly side early next week.

A strong storm will pull out of the central Plains and head towards the Great Lakes during the next couple of days and it’ll result in a late week rain event around here and some of the rain can be heavy at times. Strong south-to-southwest flow will form as the storm slides west of here and boost temperatures to milder levels – perhaps reaching the middle 60’s by Friday afternoon. The overall pattern will remain on the active side this weekend and there will continue to be a threat of showers.

A major storm system will slide northward along the spine of the Appalachians today and we’ll experience a cool down in the Tennessee Valley. Temperatures today will likely hold in the low-to-mid 40’s for highs and there can be residual shower activity; especially, in the morning. It is not out of the question that some snowflakes mix in across northeastern Alabama before the precipitation comes to an end. The chilly air mass that has pushed into the region on the backside of the storm will modify this weekend as each day should feature some sunshine.

Another significant rain event will get underway later today as a powerful storm begins to lift northeast from the northern Gulf of Mexico coastal region. This storm will not only bring us soaking rainfall – perhaps 2-3 inches with locally higher amounts – but also very strong wind gusts potentially past 50 mph. In addition, as the storm moves northward on Friday to the west of the I-95 corridor, warmer air will surge up the Atlantic seaboard and it’ll feel spring-like with temperatures climbing to 60+ degrees in the DC-to-Philly-to-NYC corridor. Given the already well-saturated grounds, localized flooding is likely to become a real concern over the next 24-48 hours.

A developing major storm system will continue to have an impact on the Tennessee Valley today and it will produce soaking rain for the eastern seaboard from later today through tomorrow. The deep upper-level low will slide east of here by tomorrow and colder air will pour into the region on its backside as we close out the work week. Temperatures tomorrow night could bottom out in the upper 20’s, but a rebound will take place over the weekend.

High pressure will begin to break down today as an upper-level trough begins to form in the Deep South. Moisture will begin to stream northeastward later in the day from the southern states and rain is likely around here later tonight night and on Thursday. Colder air will begin to filter into this region at the end of the work week following the eastward movement of the upper-level trough. The weekend is looking quite decent, but cool as high pressure should resume control across the area.
