High pressure to the east of here will continue to pump very warm air into the Tennessee Valley and temperatures today and Friday should reach 90+ degrees for afternoon highs. Generally rain-free weather is expected through tomorrow, but the approach of a cool front this weekend will increase the chances for showers and thunderstorms. By the second half of the weekend, temperatures will become more comfortable on the backside of the cool frontal system.

Very warm weather conditions will dominate the scene during the next few days in the Tennessee Valley with highs of 90+ degrees likely in northern Alabama. High pressure will push to the east of here and its backside flow of air will keep it quite warm around here for the mid and late week time periods. The chance of shower and thunderstorm activity will be somewhat limited today, but higher moisture levels on Thursday will increase probabilities.

There are still cold air outbreaks destined to push into the US from Canada as we progress through the second half of May and even accumulating snow for the Rockies, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a threat of a hurricane. In fact, there are signs that the atmosphere will become supportive of a tropical storm or hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico region later this month or early in June in what is likely to be an active season for the Atlantic Basin.
