12:00 PM (Fri.) | *Strong-to-severe thunderstorm threat late today/tonight along I-95…weather update for the SpaceX launch planned for Saturday…potential tropical activity in the Gulf of Mexico*

Paul Dorian

A pre-frontal trough of low pressure will become the focal point for showers and thunderstorms late this afternoon and early tonight in the Mid-Atlantic region and some of the storms can reach strong-to-severe levels as they approach the I-95 corridor. A strong surface cold front will arrive in the same corridor late tonight, but it will encounter a more stable atmosphere likely not resulting in additional showers or storms. A much cooler air mass will arrive in the Mid-Atlantic region tomorrow night and Sunday and the month of June could actually begin with temperatures in the 40’s early Monday in some of the northern and western suburbs in the I-95 corridor. Elsewhere, unsettled weather continues across the Southeast US over the next couple of days and there can be some shower and thunderstorm activity in Florida on Saturday, but prospects for the 3:22 PM SpaceX launch at Cape Canaveral are perhaps a bit higher than they appeared yesterday. Looking ahead, there are indications that tropical activity may develop over the Gulf of Mexico in about a week to ten days and we’ll monitor those prospects in coming days.

7:00 AM | *Next SpaceX launch attempt comes tomorrow afternoon and showers/storms will be again be a threat*

Paul Dorian

An unsettled weather pattern will continue across central Florida right through the upcoming weekend and it should result in additional showers and thunderstorms; primarily, focused on the afternoon and early evening hours. Any storm that forms over the next few days in this tropical air mass can produce heavy rainfall and gusty winds and localized flooding is a possibility. On the tropical scene, there continue to be signs that a tropical storm or hurricane could form over the Gulf of Mexico late next week or during the second week of the month of June (which begins on Monday) and we’ll continue to monitor those prospects.

12:00 PM (Thursday) | *Tropical threat on the table for the Gulf of Mexico region from late next week into the following (second) week of June*

Paul Dorian

The “official” Atlantic Basin tropical season begins on Monday, June 1st, but nature itself has, of course, gotten off to an early start. This actually continues a trend for a pre-June 1st start to the tropical season as there has been a named tropical (or sub-tropical) system in each of the last five years. Tropical Storm Arthur brushed the North Carolina coastline about ten days ago and Tropical Storm Bertha became the second storm of this young season and came ashore on Wednesday in South Carolina. There are signs that the active and early start to the 2020 tropical season will continue as we transition into the month of June which begins on Monday. In fact, there are reasons to believe that the Gulf of Mexico region could feature a tropical storm or even a hurricane by late next week or during the following (second) week of June.

7:00 AM | *Well-entrenched tropical moisture keeping threat high for showers and thunderstorms*

Paul Dorian

Tropical Storm Bertha came ashore yesterday in South Carolina and indications are that the early start to the 2020 Atlantic Basin tropical season will continue as we transition into the first half of June. In fact, there are signs that a tropical storm or hurricane may form in the Gulf of Mexico region late next week or during the second week of June and we’ll continue to monitor those prospects. In the short-term, deep tropical moisture continues to flow northward into Florida and this air mass will keep alive the chances of showers and thunderstorms not only today and Friday, but also during the upcoming weekend. Any shower or thunderstorm that forms in coming days can produce heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding conditions.

7:00 AM | *All important rocket launch today - weather permitting - and there is the chance of scattered-to-numerous showers and storms*

Paul Dorian

An unsettled weather pattern continues across Florida with plenty of tropical moisture around continuing the threat for scattered-to-numerous showers and thunderstorms. The moisture is advancing northward into the region from tropical areas to the south as high pressure over the western Atlantic Ocean promotes a southerly flow all along the eastern seaboard. High temperatures for much of the week will end up in the mid and upper 80’s across central Florida and the shower/storm threat will continue this weekend as well.

7:00 AM | *Wet weather pattern continues across much of Florida*

Paul Dorian

An unsettled weather pattern continues across Florida with plenty of tropical moisture around continuing the threat for showers and thunderstorms. Some of the rain that falls over the next couple of days can be heavy at times and then the rainfall will likely become less widespread for the latter part of the week. High temperatures for much of the week will end up in the range of the mid and upper 80’s across central Florida.

7:00 AM | *Another round of stiff onshore flow coming for the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday time period after a decent and warm weekend*

Paul Dorian

An upper-level ridge of high pressure will expand westward into the region from the western part f the Atlantic and the result will be generally dry and quite warm conditions although a few scattered showers and storms cannot be ruled out; especially, across interior sections of Florida. We’ll evolve into another stretch of weather featuring strong onshore flow early next week as strong high pressure builds to our north. As a result, easterly winds will again become stiff and persistent during the early and middle parts of next week and there will be a daily chance at showers and thunderstorms.

7:00 AM | *Mid-to-upper 80's for afternoon highs through the weekend...stiff E-SE winds to return on Monday and Tuesday*

Paul Dorian

An upper-level low that has been spinning around the Tennessee Valley in recent days will finally kick on out to the east by tomorrow and this will actually help to allow heights to rise across Florida as an Atlantic ridge of high pressure expands westward. As a result, our temperatures will tend to climb to very warm levels over the next several days with afternoon highs well up in the 80’s on a daily basis. As high pressure tends to strengthen again early next week to our north, E-SE winds will become more noticeable on Memorial Day (Monday) and Tuesday.

7:00 AM | *Looks like a breezy, warm and dry day across Florida*

Paul Dorian

The weather will generally be warm and dry today across central Florida as an Atlantic ridge of high pressure extends westward into this area. It turns a bit more unsettled tomorrow and there will be a daily shot at showers and thunderstorms through the upcoming weekend, but much of the time will be rain-free and temperatures look to be moderately warm through the period.

7:00 AM | *Very warm today with a threat of showers and thunderstorms*

Paul Dorian

The weather will remain somewhat unsettled across Florida today as one upper-level trough meanders nearby while another settles into the Tennessee Valley. As a result, there will be the threat for showers and thunderstorms in the region today, but perhaps the bigger story will be the climb towards 90 degrees for afternoon highs. Elsewhere, Tropical Storm Arthur will head on out-to-sea today after impacting the Outer Banks of North Carolina on Monday with some gusty winds and heavy rain bands.
