7:00 AM | *A warm front heads this way early tomorrow...cold front follows late tomorrow night*

Paul Dorian

High pressure will be in control of the weather for another day with dry, moderately cold conditions. A strong storm will pull to the west of here later tomorrow pushing a warm front through early in the day and then a cold front later tomorrow night. With the approach of the warm front, a few rain and/or snow showers could break out later tonight/early Thursday and then steadier rain and gusty winds are likely tomorrow night into early Friday. It turns colder later Friday and Friday night in the wake of the cold frontal passage.

2:15 PM | ***California pounding continues, but an upcoming large-scale pattern change suggests an end is in sight…ramifications for the eastern half of the nation as well***

Paul Dorian

The onslaught of Pacific Ocean storms into California will continue for the next 7-to-10 days with additional “off-the-chart” rainfall and snowfall amounts for the state.  A powerful storm continues to affect the Golden State today and another strong storm is likely to arrive this weekend.  Looking ahead, a large-scale pattern change looks likely in about ten days across North America featuring a building ridge of high pressure from Alaska to the west coast of the US.  This change is likely to bring an end to the stormy pattern in California and it may very well have important ramifications across the eastern half of the nation.

7:00 AM | *Rain coming later in the week as storm pulls up to our west*

Paul Dorian

High pressure will be in control of the weather for the next couple of days with dry, moderately cold conditions. A strong (initial) storm will pull to the west of here later in the week resulting in milder weather and periods of rain from later Thursday into early Friday.  There is a slight chance that a secondary storm forms off the Mid-Atlantic coastline by early this weekend which is something to monitor in coming days.

7:00 AM | *Clearing skies today...quiet weather for Tuesday and Wednesday...rain later in the week*

Paul Dorian

Weak low pressure will push away from the Mid-Atlantic coastline this morning and clearing skies will set in by the mid-morning hours. High pressure takes control for the Tuesday-through-Wednesday time period and it’ll be rather quiet with moderately chilly conditions.  Strong low pressure will impact the eastern third of the nation later this week and rain is likely to be the precipitation type in this region during this event.

7:00 AM | **A period of snow and/or rain likely here from late Sunday into early Monday...small accumulations are on the table**

Paul Dorian

It turns colder today and becomes windy and the weekend will feature much more seasonal conditions as well compared to recent days. Low pressure will push across the Midwest on Saturday and then reach the Mid-Atlantic region late Sunday. A period of snow and/or rain is likely here from late Sunday into early Monday and there even can be a small snow accumulation of a coating to an inch or two by early Monday morning.

2:30 PM | ***Onslaught in California continues with additional storms next several days…a look at upcoming threats in the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast US***

Paul Dorian

The onslaught of Pacific Ocean storms into California will continue for at least the next 7-to-10 days with “off-the-chart” rainfall and snowfall amounts. After slamming into California, these storms have traveled across the country making for an overall active weather pattern across much of the US. In some cases, the impact has been large such as with the severe weather outbreak earlier this week in the Lower Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys and in other cases, systems have weakened considerably by the time they have reached the eastern states.  We’ll examine upcoming threats in the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast US with small snow accumulations possible as early as Sunday night and perhaps the greatest chance for a strong storm system coming in the period of January 13-15th.

7:00 AM | *A bit cooler today, but still mild for early January...more seasonal for the weekend*

Paul Dorian

It turns a bit cooler today following the passage of a frontal system, but still quite mild for this time of year.  More seasonal air pushes into the Mid-Atlantic region for the weekend and we’ll have to monitor the movement of a low pressure system that will push through the Midwest on Saturday.  This system could produce a bit of snow and/or rain around here by late Sunday or Sunday night as temperatures remain on the moderately cold side.

7:00 AM | *Unseasonably mild today with a PM shower threat...maybe even a thunderstorm*

Paul Dorian

Unseasonably mild conditions will continue today throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and some spots may challenge record highs for the date. An approaching cold front will bring us showers later today and a late day thunderstorm cannot be ruled out.  It turns more seasonal by the weekend and low pressure could produce a period of snow and/or rain around here during the second half.

7:00 AM | *Mild pattern continues with peak of the warm-up on Wednesday when temperatures reach well into the 60's*

Paul Dorian

High pressure shifts to the western Atlantic Ocean today and the result will be very mild conditions through tomorrow in the Mid-Atlantic region.  A frontal system will impact the area for the next couple of days bringing us occasional rain showers or drizzle at times and patchy fog is also possible. This warm-up will reach its peak on Wednesday with temperatures likely climbing into the 60’s…potentially record-breaking highs in some spots. Colder and more seasonal conditions return by the end of the work week and low pressure off the coast could throw a couple of showers our way on Friday. Chilly this weekend with seasonal weather conditions and a low pressure system could produce some rain or snow around here.

7:00 AM | *A milder weather pattern into early next week...rain is likely during the PM hours on Saturday*

Paul Dorian

High pressure shifts to the western Atlantic Ocean over the next couple of days and this will promote a warming trend around here as Pacific Ocean air pushes eastward into the Mid-Atlantic region. As a result, temperatures will climb to near 50 degrees this afternoon and into the 50’s from tomorrow into early next week. The milder weather pattern will become wet on Saturday with rain a good bet during the afternoon and evening hours.. The new year should begin quite mild on Sunday with the return of some sunshine.
