7:00 AM | *An upper-level low heads towards the Great Lakes and becomes a main player for the second half of the week*

Paul Dorian

High pressure will be in control of the weather around here today providing us with plenty of sunshine and comfortably warm conditions. An upper-level low will spin its way to a position over the Great Lakes by mid-week and it will become the main player for our upcoming weather. There will be an increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday and a good chance of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow night and Thursday…some of this mid-week rain can be heavy at times. The weather remains somewhat unsettled late in the week with a threat of showers from time-to-time to go along with moderately warm conditions.

7:15 AM | *Ike said simply “we had better meteorologists”…the most important weather forecast of all-time: D-Day, June 6, 1944*

Paul Dorian

With thousands of lives on the line, there is no doubt that the weather forecast made for the D-Day invasion in Normandy, France during World War II was the most important of all-time and one of the most difficult as well given the lack of sophisticated forecasting tools that we enjoy in today’s world.  The first satellite image was still nearly sixteen years away (TIROS on April 1, 1960) and reliable computer forecast models were still decades away. This Thursday, June 6th, marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion and the weather forecast for that historic event makes for quite an interesting story in what turned out to be a pivotal moment in world history.  Years of detailed planning went into the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944, but success hinged on one element that no military commander could control — the weather.  Defying his colleagues, Captain James Martin Stagg advised General Dwight “Ike” Eisenhower to postpone the invasion of Normandy by one day from June 5th to June 6th because of uncertain weather conditions in a weather forecast that changed the course of World War II and altered world history.

7:00 AM | *Some summer-like warmth for the mid and late week*

Paul Dorian

There is the chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms this evening; otherwise, much of the next few days will be rain-free across the region. A big story this week will be the summer-like temperatures coming for the mid and late week time periods with 90 degree highs on the table. Cooler weather is likely to return this weekend and with the change will be a returning threat of showers and thunderstorms.

7:00 AM | *First week of June will be warm and unsettled with a few opportunities of showers and storms*

Paul Dorian

A weak disturbance can set off some shower and thunderstorm activity later today as temperatures climb into the low-to-mid 80’s for afternoon highs. High pressure will be in general control of the weather on Tuesday providing us with plenty of sunshine and comfortably warm conditions. An upper-level low then swings towards the Great Lakes and it’ll keep the weather pattern quite unsettled around here for the mid and late week time periods. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to return to the area later Wednesday and Wednesday night and some of that rain can be heavy at times.

Paul Dorian

A weak disturbance can set off some shower and thunderstorm activity later today as temperatures climb into the low-to-mid 80’s for afternoon highs. High pressure will try to take over on Tuesday providing us with partial sunshine and comfortably warm conditions, but there still can be a shower or thunderstorm in the area. An upper-level low then swings towards the Great Lakes and it’ll keep the weather pattern quite unsettled around here for the mid and late week time periods. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to return to the area later Wednesday and Wednesday night and some of that rain can be heavy at times.
