6:15 AM | *Following yesterday's frontal passage, sunshine will return to the area today although it will be dimmed by smoke and haze*

Paul Dorian

A cold front moved through the region on Tuesday and set the stage for clearing skies last night and plenty of sunshine here today. However, there is one “fly-in-the-ointment” with respect to the sunshine expected today, it will be dimmed by smoke and haze at times due to the post-frontal shift in the winds which are now blowing air into the Mid-Atlantic region from Canada. Another cold front heads this way at the end of the week and will likely stall-out in close proximity. As a result, several waves of low pressure could ride along the nearly stationary frontal boundary zone generating unsettled weather conditions here from late Friday through Monday with the chance of showers on each day.

*2025 tropical season off to a quiet start across the Northern Hemisphere*

Paul Dorian

The Northern Hemisphere saw its first hurricane of the season on Monday in the eastern Pacific Ocean, but overall, the 2025 tropical season is off to a relatively quiet start. In fact, there are reports that this is the latest time since 1993 for the first hurricane to develop in the Northern Hemisphere. In addition, the western Pacific Ocean hasn’t seen a named storm so far this tropical season and there are (unconfirmed) reports that this may be the latest time ever for that to take place. In the Atlantic Basin, it is still quite early in the season and there has been no activity so far, but there is the possibility of a tropical system in about a week to ten days or so across the southwestern Gulf of America or northwestern Caribbean Sea.

6:15 AM | *A cold front pushes through the region today with additional showers and perhaps a strong thunderstorm*

Paul Dorian

A cold front moves across the region today and with it some additional shower activity is likely and perhaps a strong thunderstorm. Skies will clear tonight and Wednesday should feature plenty of sunshine as high pressure builds into the Mid-Atlantic. Another cold front heads this way at the end of the week and this system could lead to an unsettled Father’s Day weekend with the chance of showers on both days.

6:15 AM | *Cold frontal passage brings about mainly sunny skies for today along with comfortably warm conditions*

Paul Dorian

A cold frontal passage will result in mainly sunny skies on Tuesday and comfortably warm conditions with afternoon highs in the low-to-mid 80’s. After another warm, rain-free day at mid-week, the weather turns unsettled for the late week and weekend with the approach and arrival of the next cold frontal system to the Tennessee Valley.

6:15 AM | *Unsettled weather into tomorrow...high pressure takes control for the mid and late week*

Paul Dorian

Unsettled weather will continue through much of tomorrow across the Mid-Atlantic region and then high pressure takes control for the mid and late week time periods. Low pressure passes nearby today and then a cold front slides across the region on Tuesday. There will be scattered showers today…perhaps a thunderstorm or two and then another round of showers and thunderstorms is likely later tonight into Tuesday…some of that rain can be heavy at times.  Temperatures during the next couple of days will be limited due to copious amounts of clouds and then full sunshine returns for the mid and late week with the high pressure building back into the area. Looking ahead, from this vantage point the Father’s Day weekend is looking cooler and quite unsettled with the chance of showers and thunderstorms on both days.
