Following the passage of a cold front, a more comfortable air mass has pushed into the Mid-Atlantic region, but it doesn’t come completely on the dry side. There is a band of showers currently sweeping across northern MD and southern PA which could result in an isolated shower across some of the far northern suburbs of DC early in the day. Temperatures should peak later today in the upper 70’s and climb to the low-to-mid 80’s at mid-week with relatively comfortable humidity levels. The combination of a warm and cold front later this week will bring more unsettled weather back to the Mid-Atlantic.

The overall unsettled weather pattern in the Mid-Atlantic region did not end with yesterday’s showers and thunderstorms. After a pleasant Friday, yet another wave of energy aloft will push south and east into the Mid-Atlantic region on Saturday raising the chance of showers and thunderstorms from late tonight through Saturday and some of the rain can be heavy. Our active weather pattern in the Mid-Atlantic region continues for the next several days with multiple chances of heavy showers and severe thunderstorms that can produce damaging wind gusts and even isolated tornadoes. In a similar pattern to recent severe weather outbreaks, a strong wave of energy will drop southeastward into the Mid-Atlantic region later today riding along a northwesterly flow of air on the peripheral of strong high pressure centered over the western states.

The next couple of days look to be quite hot with afternoon high temperatures well up in the 90’s and generally rain-free conditions are expected. Monsoonal moisture makes a return to the area this weekend and that should cause an increase in the chance of showers and thunderstorms on each day.
