6:00 AM | *Improvement for the next few days as nor'easter pulls away*

Paul Dorian

The slow-moving nor’easter that plagued the Mid-Atlantic region throughout the weekend is now gone from the picture and sunshine will return today to go along with comfortable temperatures. In fact, the next few days will be rather nice with plenty of sunshine on a daily basis and comfortable conditions as we end September and begin October. A weak cold front arrives at the end of the week and it can bring some shower activity to the Mid-Atlantic region on Friday night and Saturday. Another system comes out of the Gulf states on Sunday and it could produce some rain in our area for the second half of the weekend.

6:00 AM | ****Early season nor'easter to impact much of the Mid-Atlantic region...greatest affects along coastal sections****

Paul Dorian

Low pressure will intensify off the Mid-Atlantic coastline today and become increasingly influenced by strong high pressure to the north - a key player in this scenario - which will stymie the storm’s northward progress. The strengthening low pressure system will slowdown and then can take a loop back to the coast during the upcoming weekend. This early season nor’easter will affect much of the Mid-Atlantic region with rain and wind back inland to much of the I-95 corridor and will have its biggest impact along coastal sections where tidal flooding and beach erosion are big concerns at times of high tide. The full moon is reached on Saturday which will only exacerbate the tidal issues…expect rip currents and high surf at all the beaches up and down the east coast throughout the weekend.

****Early season nor’easter to impact much of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast US...greatest affects along coastal sections where tidal flooding and beach erosion are big concerns****

Paul Dorian

An early season nor’easter will impact much of the Mid-Atlantic region and Northeast US and likely have its greatest affects on coastal sections where tidal flooding and beach erosion are big concerns. The time period for impact by this developing storm system for the northeastern states will be from Friday night through Sunday…a prolonged event. The combination of strong high pressure centered over southeastern Canada and intensifying low-pressure over the western Atlantic Ocean will result in an extended period of onshore flow along coastal sections leading to the tidal flooding and beach erosion issues; especially, at times of high tide - and a full moon on Saturday won’t help the situation. As the Atlantic low intensifies and slowly pushes to the north, it will become increasingly under the influence of the strong high pressure ridging to its north, and this will lead to a slowdown and then likely a loop back to the coast. Rain and wind will extend inland back to the big cities in the I-95 corridor during the Friday night through Sunday time period.
