7:00 AM | *Very comfortable air mass with low humidity pushes into the Mid-Atlantic region for the next couple of days...weekend starts off well*

Paul Dorian

High pressure has edged into the Mid-Atlantic region and it arrives with a spectacular air mass for late May featuring very comfortable temperatures and humidity levels. There will be plenty of sunshine today to go along with the pleasant temperatures and low humidity and it stays nice on Friday as well. The weekend looks like it will start off well with plenty of sunshine expected on Saturday to go along with comfortably warm temperatures. The second half of the weekend is likely to feature increasing clouds as a disturbance heads this way from the Midwest and there is the chance of showers late in the day or on Sunday night.

7:00 AM | **The threat of showers and thunderstorms will increase later today and continue tonight...any storm can be on the strong side**

Paul Dorian

Low pressure will push towards the region later today and the chance of showers and thunderstorms will be on the increase this afternoon and that threat will continue through much of tonight…any thunderstorm can be on the strong side. High pressure arrives on Thursday with plenty of sunshine and lowering humidity values, but an isolated shower or two cannot be ruled out. Temperatures will be quite comfortable for the next few days with the mid-to-upper 70’s for highs this afternoon and the middle 70’s on Thursday and Friday. A warming trend takes place this weekend and high temperatures by Sunday and Monday will be back near the 80 degree mark.

7:00 AM | *Quieter weather today with plenty of sunshine and lower humidity...shower/storm threat returns on Wednesday*

Paul Dorian

After a volatile end to the holiday weekend, the weather today will be quieter with plenty of sunshine, lower humidity, and comfortably warm conditions as high pressure takes control. The next low pressure system to impact the region comes at mid-week raising the chance of showers and thunderstorms from Wednesday afternoon into early Thursday. High pressure returns for the late week and it’ll be associated with a cooler-than-normal air mass for the end of May on Thursday and Friday.

6:30 AM | **Somewhat unsettled today through Sunday, but there should be plenty of rain-free time...looking wet and stormy for Memorial Day**

Paul Dorian

A cold front grudgingly slid through the region yesterday and will stall just to our south by the early part of the weekend. Additional disturbances will ride along this stalled-out frontal boundary zone through the weekend bringing us the chance of showers and thunderstorms from time-to-time; however, there should be plenty of rain-free time as well so not at all a total washout. An unsettled weather pattern early next week with a deepening upper-level trough of low pressure will bring us a good chance of showers and thunderstorms on Monday, Memorial Day…some of the rain can be heavy, some of the storms can be strong-to-severe.

7:00 AM | **A shower or thunderstorm at just about anytime today and tonight...some of the storms can be strong**

Paul Dorian

A cold front will grudgingly slide through the region today and then stall just to our south at the end of the week. There can be a shower or thunderstorm at just about any time today and tonight and some of the storms that form can be on the strong side. The threat of showers and thunderstorms will diminish some on Friday and then increase again this weekend as disturbances ride along the stalled-out frontal boundary zone. The weekend will not be a total washout, however, as there should be plenty of rain-free time. An unsettled weather pattern early next week will bring us a good chance of showers and thunderstorms on Monday, Memorial Day, and likely Tuesday as well.

1:45 PM | **Showers and storms in the Mid-Atlantic region tonight, tomorrow, and tomorrow night...some of the storms can be strong-to-severe...a look ahead to Memorial Day and it looks wet**

Paul Dorian

Yesterday and today featured plenty of sunshine in the Mid-Atlantic region with very warm and rain-free conditions – not too common in recent weeks – and the dry weather is about to change. The approach of a cold front will bring about an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms this evening across the Mid-Atlantic region and the threat of rain will continue on Thursday and Thursday night. Any thunderstorm in this stretch between this evening and tomorrow night can be on the strong-to-severe side with heavy rain, gusty winds and perhaps even some hail. The period between Friday and Sunday will likely feature some shower activity, but the weekend will not be a total washout. Looking ahead to Monday, Memorial Day, an unusually strong upper-level low for late May will be pushing in this direction and the holiday may turn out to be quite wet in the Mid-Atlantic region.

7:00 AM | **Plenty of sun today and very warm...chance of showers and storms tonight, Thursday, and Thursday night...any thunderstorm between late today and late tomorrow can be on the strong side**

Paul Dorian

Today will be another day featuring abundant sunshine and very warm conditions with temperatures climbing well up into the 80’s for afternoon highs throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. High pressure will be the main player through today, but an approaching cold frontal system later tonight will turn out to be a dominant player for the remainder of the week and weekend. This front will grudgingly slide across the region on Thursday and then stall just to our south at the end of the week ultimately allowing disturbances to track along its boundary zone.

As a result, the chance of showers and thunderstorms will increase here by this evening and the threat will continue on Thursday and Thursday night…any thunderstorm that forms in this stretch can be on the strong side. The threat of showers and thunderstorms will diminish some on Friday and then increase again on Saturday and Sunday; however, the weekend does not look like a washout. Additional disturbances will ride along the stalled-out frontal boundary zone into early next week and there is a good chance of showers on Monday, Memorial Day, and perhaps thunderstorms as well.

7:00 AM | **Plenty of sun today and tomorrow and quite warm...chance of showers and thunderstorms late tomorrow night and on Thursday...any storm on Thursday afternoon can be on the strong side**

Paul Dorian

Today and tomorrow will feature plenty of sunshine and quite warm conditions around here with temperatures climbing well up into the 80’s for afternoon highs. High pressure will be the main player through Wednesday, but an approaching cold frontal system on Wednesday night will turn out to be the dominant player for much of the second half of the week and also the upcoming weekend. This front will reluctantly slide across the region on Thursday and then stall just to our south at the end of the week ultimately allowing disturbances to track along its boundary zone during the weekend and also the early part of next week. As a result, the chance of showers and thunderstorms will increase here later Wednesday night and continue on Thursday…any thunderstorm later Thursday can be on the strong side. The threat of showers and thunderstorms will continue on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - thanks to the active and nearby stalled-out frontal boundary zone - and the chance of rain can even last into Monday, Memorial Day.

1:00 PM | ***Tornadoes on Sunday across Oklahoma and Kansas...an enhanced threat of severe weather on Tuesday across portions of Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri as active pattern continues***

Paul Dorian

The number of tornadoes across the nation has surged in the last four weeks to overall levels that are now well above normal for the current time of year. One of the catalysts for these severe weather outbreaks has been the continuation of colder-than-normal air masses that have been dropping south and east from Canada into the US and this has set up “battle zone” regions when interacting with warm, humid air flowing northward from the Gulf of Mexico. In addition, there have been and will continue to be multiple waves of energy riding across the northern US enhancing upward motion in many of these severe weather cases. This active weather pattern will continue through the rest of May and Tuesday afternoon and evening may feature yet another severe weather outbreak including tornadoes across portions of Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri.

7:00 AM | *Clouds give way to some sun today...a full day of sunshine expected on Tuesday...quite a rarity of late*

Paul Dorian

The next couple of days will be dominated by a high pressure system that will build across the Mid-Atlantic region providing us with partial sunshine today and likely a full day of sunshine on Tuesday…quite a rarity in recent weeks. A cold frontal system will approach the area at mid-week and likely stall nearby later in the week causing unsettled conditions to return to the area. After a rain-free next couple of days, the threat of showers and thunderstorms will increase later Wednesday and especially on Thursday given the close proximity of the frontal system. Temperatures will be consistently on the warm side this week with highs today well up in the 70’s and likely well up in the 80’s for much of the remainder of the week.
