7:00 AM | *Becoming quite windy and much milder today ahead of the next cold front...colder again on Thursday and Friday*

Paul Dorian

It becomes quite windy and much milder today ahead of the next cold front and there can be a couple of late day or early evening showers as this system arrives. The passage of the cold front will usher in another colder-than-normal air mass to the Mid-Atlantic region for Thursday and Friday. After that, attention will turn to a strong low pressure system that is likely to push to the Mid-Atlantic coastline by the early part of the weekend and generate some rain around here from late Friday night into Saturday…some of the rain can be heavy. Another colder-than-normal air mass will follow that storm system for the second half of the weekend and the early part of next week.

Paul Dorian

Colder air pushed into the Mid-Atlantic region on Sunday night following the passage of a cold front and temperatures will remain at slightly below-normal levels around here today. It does turn milder on Wednesday ahead of the next cold front and there can be a couple of late day or early evening showers as it arrives. The passage of that next front will usher in another colder-than-normal air mass for Thursday and Friday and then attention will turn to a possible strong low pressure system that can push to the Mid-Atlantic coastline by the early part of the weekend. One final note, spring officially gets underway later tonight at 11:06 PM.

7:15 AM | *The Great Blizzard of March 18-21, 1958…one of the worst snowstorms ever in eastern Pennsylvania*

Paul Dorian

March is known to feature some crazy and surprising weather and the 1958 blizzard that occurred in the Mid-Atlantic region between March 18th and 23rd was indeed rather unexpected. In general, forecasts on the morning of March 18th had no mention of snow. This was in an era before computer forecast models were being utilized by weather forecasters on a daily basis and it was even before satellite imagery existed which could aid in the forecast. By afternoon on that particular day, the light rain had changed into huge, wet snowflakes and - for the next few days - history was being made.
