7:00 AM | **Another unsettled day with the threat of PM showers, maybe a thunderstorm that can produce small hail**

Paul Dorian

Another active weather day is coming to the Mid-Atlantic region with the threat of PM showers, maybe a thunderstorm. Any heavier shower or thunderstorm later today can generate small hail (ice pellets) or graupel (snow pellets) due to a cold upper atmosphere. It stays somewhat unsettled on Friday with lots of clouds and a couple of showers are still possible. Quieter and milder weather returns to the region later in the weekend.

7:00 AM | *A couple more mild days around here, but then it turns colder for the weekend with the chance of rain and/or snow showers returning to the region*

Paul Dorian

The next couple of days looks rather mild across the area and winds will be a noticeable factor as well. The dry, warm, and breezy conditions will end early in the weekend as colder air pushes in from the west and the change in temperatures will come with the chance of rain and/or snow showers.

Saturday PM update: *A look at cloud cover prospects for solar eclipse Monday, April 8th*

Paul Dorian

In August of 2017 America went crazy for the first coast-to-coast total solar eclipse on US soil since 1918 and it provided a great opportunity for scientists and all sky watchers. What was referred to as “The Great American Solar Eclipse” took place on August 21st, 2017 when the moon passed between the sun and earth. Total solar eclipses occur somewhere on Earth every year or so, but generally cast their shadows over oceans or remote land masses.  If you missed the 2017 total solar eclipse or it turned out to be cloudy in your particular area then there will be another opportunity on Monday, April 8th. This time the Moon's dark shadow, about 115 miles wide, will cross Mexico, sweep northeast from Texas to Maine, and then darken the Canadian Maritimes.

7:00 AM | **More rain today, tonight and Thursday and some of it heavy...a thunderstorm or two possible along the way...hail (ice pellets) or graupel (snow pellets) can be mixed in at times**

Paul Dorian

There has been rain, heavy at times, during the past couple of days and there will be rain, heavy at times, during the next couple of days…watch out for localized flooding. There are a couple of differences, however, in overall atmospheric conditions that will have an impact today, tonight and tomorrow. First, the overall atmosphere becomes some what more unstable later today leading to an increasing wind compared to earlier in the week and an also an increased chance for a strong thunderstorm. In addition, the overall atmosphere will become colder later today and tonight and this will allow for an increased chance of hail (ice pellets) or graupel (snow pellets) during any heavier shower or thunderstorm right through tomorrow. The weather remains somewhat unsettled on Friday and it takes until later in the weekend to finally settle down to quieter and milder conditions.

7:00 AM | *Dry, breezy, quite mild conditions next few days...colder this weekend with the return of showers*

Paul Dorian

The remainder of the week looks rather mild across the area and winds will be a noticeable factor as well. An upper-level ridge of high pressure will be the catalyst for improving weather conditions as it builds over the Rocky Mountain States during the next couple of days. The dry, warm, and breezy conditions will continue into the weekend, but then cooler conditions will return to the region.
