High pressure that originated over central Canada will remain in control of the weather around here for the next few days with plenty of sunshine on a daily basis and continuing comfortable temperatures and humidity levels. The next frontal system arrives late in the week, but it looks rather weak and this could be a rain-free event. A stronger system could arrive by the latter part of the weekend and early part of next week with a better chance for some widespread rainfall in the Mid-Atlantic region.

We have now reached rare territory for the Atlantic Basin due to the lack of hurricanes at this stage of the tropical season. In fact, this is the latest time without an Atlantic hurricane during the satellite era which began in 1966 and there is likelihood that one has to go all the way back to 1941 though confidence in the tracking of hurricanes is far less certain in the pre-satellite era. Having said that, an extremely quiet first half of the tropical season does not guarantee an uneventful second half…indeed, there are some signals that activity will pick up later this month.

The shortened work week will end with very warm and dry conditions across the Denver metro region with afternoon highs well up in the 90’s. It does turn somewhat cooler on Saturday, and the weekend weather will become more unsettled as well.
