7:00 AM | **Active weather next 36-48 hours with showers and thunderstorms likely...some of the storms can be strong-to-severe**

Paul Dorian

An active weather pattern is in store for the region during the next couple of days and it can include some strong-to-severe thunderstorm activity. A slow-moving cold front associated with an intensifying upper-level trough will be the main culprit for numerous showers and thunderstorms during the next 36 hours or so. High pressure will take over at the end of the work week and it looks like it may set the stage for a decent Memorial Day weekend though it will get quite warm by Monday.

7:00 AM | *Numerous showers coming for the mid-week time period along with possible strong-to-severe thunderstorms*

Paul Dorian

In the wake of the departure of low pressure, the day will start off on the dry side, but clouds will increase later as another wave approaches the Mississippi Valley. While the chance of showers and thunderstorms will increase later today and tonight, the rain will be more likely on Wednesday and Wednesday night as an upper-level trough intensifies. In fact, numerous showers are likely in the mid-week time frame around here and some storms that form can be strong-to-severe.

7:00 AM | *A few more days with highs at 90+ degrees...relief comes later in the weekend*

Paul Dorian

High pressure to the east of here will continue to pump very warm air into the Tennessee Valley and temperatures today and Friday should reach 90+ degrees for afternoon highs. Generally rain-free weather is expected through tomorrow, but the approach of a cool front this weekend will increase the chances for showers and thunderstorms. By the second half of the weekend, temperatures will become more comfortable on the backside of the cool frontal system.

Paul Dorian

Very warm weather conditions will dominate the scene during the next few days in the Tennessee Valley with highs of 90+ degrees likely in northern Alabama. High pressure will push to the east of here and its backside flow of air will keep it quite warm around here for the mid and late week time periods. The chance of shower and thunderstorm activity will be somewhat limited today, but higher moisture levels on Thursday will increase probabilities.

9:00 AM | *An early hurricane threat for the Gulf of Mexico region...this threat comes despite more cold air outbreaks for the US and even significant accumulating snow in the Rockies*

Paul Dorian

There are still cold air outbreaks destined to push into the US from Canada as we progress through the second half of May and even accumulating snow for the Rockies, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a threat of a hurricane. In fact, there are signs that the atmosphere will become supportive of a tropical storm or hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico region later this month or early in June in what is likely to be an active season for the Atlantic Basin.

7:00 AM | *Quite warm next several days...weekend brings us a renewed shower and thunderstorm threat*

Paul Dorian

Today will be another rain-free day in the Tennessee Valley and quite warm as well with afternoon highs well up in the 80’s. Humidity is going to become a noticeable factor for each of the next few days; especially, when compared to the generally dry weather pattern of recent days and weeks. The chance of showers and thunderstorms will increase this weekend, but the passage of a frontal system will likely result in rain-free weather again here early next week.

7:00 AM | *Very warm stretch of weather for the Tennessee Valley*

Paul Dorian

The next several days will feature some very warm weather in northern Alabama and humidity will become a factor unlike much of the relatively dry weather we’ve experienced for much of the spring season so far. Our rain-free weather of recent days will continue through tomorrow, but the chance of showers and thunderstorms will increase this weekend.
