7:00 AM | *Much more comfortable air mass follows passage of cold front*

Paul Dorian

A cold front passed through the region and cooler, drier air will pour into the region today in stiff NW winds. This change in air mass will result in more comfortable temperatures and humidity levels not only for today, but also for much of the weekend. By early next week, more humid air will return on the backside of high pressure which will shift to our east this weekend and the chance of showers and storms will be on the increase during the first half of next week.

7:00 AM | *Unsettled conditions today...setting up for a nice Friday and Saturday...more humid and warmer for Sunday and Monday*

Paul Dorian

A frontal system will bring us the chance of showers and thunderstorms today and some of the storms can be on the strong side. The front should clear the region late today from northwest-to-southeast paving the way for cooler, drier conditions in the overnight hours and on Friday. In fact, it looks like Friday and Saturday will be quite comfortable around here for the early part of June. Warmer and more humid air returns for Sunday and Monday and with it will come a renewed chance of showers and thunderstorms.

11:15 AM | *Unsettled weather for the Mid-Atlantic region from later today through tomorrow night to include the chance of some heavy rain and strong thunderstorms…an early tropical threat*

Paul Dorian

The passage of a back door cool front has brought relief today to the New York City metro region, New Jersey and it’ll turn out to be a bit better in the Philly area as well as easterly low-level winds have developed during the past few hours. Unfortunately, there will be no relief today in the DC metro region with highs likely to again be in the 90’s. This weak frontal boundary zone and another front will cause unsettled weather in the Mid-Atlantic from later today through tomorrow night that will include the chance for heavy rain and strong thunderstorms. High pressure will take back control at the end of the week and the weekend is shaping up to be quite nice across the region.

7:00 AM | *A much different pattern next few days compared to the very active weather of the last few*

Paul Dorian

After a couple of very active days in the Tennessee Valley with numerous showers and thunderstorms, the weather will change dramatically today as high pressure builds into the region. As a result, there will be plenty of sunshine, comfortable temperatures, and virtually no chance of rain in the area. The weather remains decent this holiday weekend, but it does get quite warm by the time we get to Monday afternoon with highs back near the 90 degree mark.

****Showers and possible severe thunderstorms in the Mid-Atlantic region on Friday and Friday night…holiday weekend starts off unsettled, but should end well though it’ll get very warm****

Paul Dorian

The combination of an increasingly humid air mass, strong surface frontal system and a vigorous mid-level low will help generate numerous showers on Friday and Friday night in the Mid-Atlantic region and possible severe thunderstorms. In fact, there may be two bands of thunderstorms to closely monitor during this event- one during the mid-day/early afternoon hours and a second during the late evening associated with the frontal passage. The main severe weather parameter threats will be damaging wind gusts, “flash-flooding” downpours, and isolated tornadoes are even possible. The upper-level low will be rather slow-moving from west-to-east and this is likely to result in an unsettled weather day on Saturday in the Mid-Atlantic region with scattered showers and strong thunderstorms. The upper-level will exit off the coast on Sunday resulting in improvement to end the weekend and the weather on Monday, Memorial Day, should feature plenty of sunshine, very warm conditions and highs well up in the 80’s.

7:00 AM | ***Another day with showers and strong-to-severe storms in the Tennessee Valley...weekend looking pretty nice though it'll get to 90 degrees by the holiday***

Paul Dorian

An active weather pattern continues for another in the Tennessee Valley and it can include some strong-to-severe thunderstorm activity with potential damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours. A slow-moving cold front associated with an intensifying upper-level trough will be the main culprit for the numerous showers and thunderstorms. High pressure will take over on Friday and it looks like it may set the stage for a pretty decent Memorial Day weekend though it will get quite warm by Monday.

7:00 AM | **Active weather next 36-48 hours with showers and thunderstorms likely...some of the storms can be strong-to-severe**

Paul Dorian

An active weather pattern is in store for the region during the next couple of days and it can include some strong-to-severe thunderstorm activity. A slow-moving cold front associated with an intensifying upper-level trough will be the main culprit for numerous showers and thunderstorms during the next 36 hours or so. High pressure will take over at the end of the work week and it looks like it may set the stage for a decent Memorial Day weekend though it will get quite warm by Monday.

7:00 AM | *Numerous showers coming for the mid-week time period along with possible strong-to-severe thunderstorms*

Paul Dorian

In the wake of the departure of low pressure, the day will start off on the dry side, but clouds will increase later as another wave approaches the Mississippi Valley. While the chance of showers and thunderstorms will increase later today and tonight, the rain will be more likely on Wednesday and Wednesday night as an upper-level trough intensifies. In fact, numerous showers are likely in the mid-week time frame around here and some storms that form can be strong-to-severe.
