***A run to 100 degrees on the horizon for the DC-to-Boston corridor...a surge of high heat early-to-middle of next week***

Paul Dorian

Father’s Day turned out to be very cool across the Mid-Atlantic region and Northeast US with some spots nearly 20 degrees below normal for the middle of June and today will be much the same. Temperatures will rebound dramatically by the middle of this week with highs in the 90’s on the table by Thursday afternoon along the DC-to-Boston corridor. The warm-up at mid-week comes ahead of a strong cold front which can produce strong-to-severe thunderstorms by later Thursday or Thursday night.

After backing off slightly for the end of the week and beginning of the weekend, temperatures are likely to surge in the DC-to-Boston corridor during the early and middle parts of next week with a run to 100 degrees possible in the big cities along Route I-95. Very strong upper-level ridging which has been largely confined to the western states in recent days will push to a position centered over the eastern states early next week and temperatures will respond in a dramatic fashion.

6:15 AM | *Week starts off on the cool side, but it turns much warmer at mid-week...strong-to-severe storms possible late Thursday*

Paul Dorian

A stationary frontal system will keep it unsettled around here for another couple of days with a daily chance of showers though most of the time will be rain-free. The front finally pulls north as a warm front by mid-week and temperatures will respond by climbing well up into the 80’s on Wednesday. Another cold front heads this way on Thursday and it can produce some strong-to-severe thunderstorm activity late in the day and on Thursday night. Looking ahead, a surge of heat is possible for the DC-to-Boston corridor early next week that could result in a run to 100 degrees in the big cities along Roue I-95.

6:15 AM | **An extended stretch of unsettled weather to last through the Father's Day weekend and into the middle of next week...some of the rain will be heavy**

Paul Dorian

A cold front has dropped southward into the Mid-Atlantic region from southeastern Canada and it will stall out in close proximity later in the day. Several waves of low pressure are likely to ride along this nearly stationary frontal boundary zone during the next several days generating a stretch of unsettled weather around here from today all the way into the middle of next week. While there should be plenty of rain-free time during this extended time period, showers will be possible on each day from today through next Wednesday, thunderstorms can mix into the picture, and some of the rain will likely be heavy at times.

6:15 AM | **Very warm weather pattern can bring us the low-to-middle 90's for afternoon highs on both weekend days**

Paul Dorian

A very warm weather pattern will continue through the weekend and into the early part of next week with afternoon high temperatures potentially reaching the low-to-middle 90’s. In terms of rainfall, there is the threat for showers and thunderstorms both later today and on Saturday...some of the thunderstorms can be strong-to-severe over the northeast Plains.

6:15 AM | *Very warm and humid next few days with a daily shot at showers and thunderstorms*

Paul Dorian

Humidity will be noticeably higher today as a more tropical airmass filters into the region with high pressure strengthening over the Gulf of America. This system will remain in that location for a few days and the result here will be very warm and humid weather along with a daily shot at showers and thunderstorms. The best chance for the shower and thunderstorm activity will come during the PM hours and given the high moisture levels, some of the rain can be heavy at times in this stretch of unsettled weather across the Tennessee Valley.
