The powerful storm system that brought heavy rain and strong winds to the area on Thursday has pushed off to our northeast and there should be some sunshine today in its wake today. But the bigger story will be the howling winds on our Halloween Day which can gust to 50 mph from a west-to-northwest direction…power outages are on the table. A very tight pressure gradient is now developing between the powerful departing storm system and an incoming high pressure system over the Northern Plains. High pressure will be in control of the weather this weekend resulting in cool, dry conditions, but winds will still be somewhat of a factor on Saturday.

The main theme of the overall weather pattern for the next several days is “dry” with no rain or snow on the horizon. It’ll be on the cool side for the next couple of days, but then it turns warmer this weekend with highs by Sunday afternoon likely to be well up in the 70’s.

3I/ATLAS was discovered by telescope on July 1st, 2025, and it has been classified as interstellar because its trajectory is hyperbolic meaning it is not gravitationally bound to our solar system. It will pass closest to the sun later today, at about 1.4 astronomical units (AU) or about 130 million miles, and then make its nearest approach to Earth on December 19th, 2025, at about 1.8 AU or about 170 million miles.
