An unusually strong “cold air damming” scenario is looking likely for the next few days anchored by a deep high-pressure system centered over southeastern Canada. As a result, a stiff flow of air from the east-to-northeast will form producing far below normal temperatures in the DC-to-Philly-to-NYC corridor for the bulk of the week. In addition to the chill down, the weather will be quite unsettled as well with periods of rain during the next few days as multiple low pressure areas ride along a nearby frontal boundary zone and one of these will intensify over the western Atlantic. With the expected lengthy period of onshore flow, tidal flooding will likely become a big concern along coastal sections by later in the week.

Temperatures have been consistently peaking well up in the 80’s in recent days along the DC-to-Philly-to-NYC corridor, but there can be quite a change by the middle of next week. An unsettled weather pattern will continue into the weekend with a continuing chance of showers and thunderstorms and some of the rain can be locally heavy. The pattern turns drier for the early part of next week and we’ll be on the cool side with highs generally in the 70’s.
